Lee Ettelson (1898 - ?) was an editor of newspapers, including the San Francisco Examiner, and the Chicago Herald Examiner, both of which were owned by William Randolph Hearst (1863-1951). The collection (1928-1940) contains correspondence between Hearst and Ettelson, with incoming letters from Hearst conveying instruction, praise, and censure, and also newspapers annotated by Hearst.

George Putnam (1872-1961) became a newspaper reporter, editor, manager, and publisher. The collection (1900-1919) contains correspondence, business papers, memorabilia, and scrapbooks.

Howard Duryee Wheeler (1880-1958) was a newspaper and magazine editor and manager, working for individual companies and for large syndicates. The collection (circa 1880-1958) consists of his autobiography, titled Harbor at Dawn.
