William C. Gleim was an enlisted man from Chicago during the Philippine-American War (Philippine War of Independence), probably in the 1st Illinois Battalion. The collection (1899) contains correspondence written from Gleim to his parents from the transport ship Sherman en route to the Philippines, and from Luzon.

Edwin William Hampton, from Portland, Oregon, a private in Company H, Oregon Volunteer Infantry, is said to have been the first Oregon soldier killed in the Spanish-American War's Philippines campaign. The letters, with few exceptions, are to and from family members. During the war Hampton was at Presidio, Calif., and in Manila, P.I.

George Arthur Hartman (1878-1952), an Oregonian, worked in banking, became the mayor and postmaster of Pendleton, Oregon, and served in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War. The collection (1898-1899) contains letters written by Hartman while he was in the service.

Jacob Imhoff served in the Spanish American War in the Philippines, in Company E, 14th Infantry. The collection (1899) consists of one letter from Imhoff to Agnes Plummer of Portland, Oregon, in which he describes military life.

Harry L. McAlister served in the Spanish American War in the Philippines as an enlisted man, Company A, of the Oregon Volunteers. The collection (1898-1899) contains mementos of the war including a copy of a diary by American prisoners, photographs, gathered correspondence, clippings, and other mementos, orders, Philippine publications, and an Oregon Volunteers flag.

Will H. Robinson served in the Spanish American War in the Philippines. The collection (1899) contains one letter from Robinson, sent from Manila, to Grace Plummer of Portland, Oregon.

Albert Montreville Taylor served in the Philippine Constabulary. The collection (1900-1966) contains correspondence, diaries, constabulary records and publications, and also personal papers, photographs, and memorabilia.

Frederick W. Wichman served as a seaman, and in the infantry in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War and Philippine-American War, 1898-1901. The collection contains diaries and letters Wichman kept during his military service, and during a voyage around the world in 1901.

Arthur Wilson (1881-1953) was a veteran of the Spanish-American War, and a politician. The collection (1895-1902) includes Wilson's diary, newspapers and news clippings, publications, financial records, correspondence, ephemera, and photographs, all documenting his time serving in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War.
