Watercolors

The papers of Cornelius DeWitt, German-born children's book illustrator, include original artwork for children’s book illustrations, as well as artwork for proposed publications. Also included are correspondence files and production notes for his work.

Arthur D. Fuller (1889-1966) was an illustrator and artist for newspapers, periodicals, and books, and whose specialty was the illustration of hunting and fishing scenes and outdoor action. The collection (1916-1960) contains sketchbooks, drawings, watercolors, oils, and etchings, published examples of Fuller's work, and correspondence.

Melvin Clark George (1849-1933) was an Oregon pioneer, lawyer, state senator and U.S. Representative. The collection contains addresses (speeches), essays and letters to newspapers, manuscripts, legal documents, newspapers, artwork and scrapbooks.

Carrie K. Sweetser (1863-1952) was a watercolorist, life-long diarist, and devoted travel companion of her botanist husband, UO Botany professor, Albert Raddin Sweetser. The collection contains watercolor paintings of botany subjects, including wildflowers and fungi.

In Oregon, artists and crafts people worked on Work Projects Administration (WPA) projects for schools, universities, hospitals, and the Forest Service. This collection includes photographs of paintings and murals that were installed in Oregon public schools, University of Oregon and Doernbecher Memorial Hospital for Children, Portland, Oregon. Of interest to the researcher is the collection of photographs of woodwork, art, and paintings for Timberline Lodge, Mt. Hood, Oregon.
