Certificates

This collection includes articles of incorporation and minutes of stockholders' meetings. The incorporators were Archibald Whisnant, George Vath, and James B. Kerr. Also in this volume are the corporate records of the Bend Press Publishing Co., 1916-1919, the directors being Clyde M. McKay, George T. Pearce, and D. B. Stuart.

Collection is comprised of the Certificate of Register issued to Herman C. Leonard by John Adair for the brig, Metropolis.

The collection consists of a photostat copy of the Clackamas County Court's certificate of taxation for 1857.

Collection is comprised of the certificate permitting Melvin C. George to practice as an attorney before the U.S. Supreme Court.

The Independent Organization of Odd Fellows is a fraternal organization that traces its roots back to 17th century England. The collection contains a certificate of membership from Lodge #8, of Hannibal, Missouri, dated November 10, 1840.

Thomas Allen McBride (1847-1930) became an attorney, served in the Oregon House of Representatives, as a District Attorney, as a Clatsop County Circuit Court judge, and from 1909 till 1930, served as an Oregon Supreme Court Justice. The collection contains correspondence, speeches, publications, certificates, clippings, and photographs.

Resolutions written by Wallowa Valley Chapter No. 50, Order of Eastern Star, in memory of Sarah J. Veasey, a member who had recently died. Secretary of order was D.W. Sheahan.

The Socialist Party of Albany, Oregon Local No. 2 was in operation in the early 1900s, and then again in the 1930s. The collection (1904-1934) consists of secretary's and treasurer's books that contains minutes, constitution, charter, membership reports, flyers, brochures, and other ephemera.

Teacher's certificate, Umatilla County, Or., May 24, 1884, and Teacher's temporary certificate, Lane County, Or., Sept. 10, 1890, issued to Miss Jennie Spencer. Certificates include her examination scores in various academic subjects.

Certificate for a donation land claim in Lane County, Oregon filed by Jeremiah B. Thomson in 1855.

Indian Wars Widow's Pension and certificate issued to Mary A. Holland of Crow, Oregon, by the Bureau of Pensions. Mary Holland's husband, Thomas J. Holland, was a sergeant in the Oregon Mounted Vols. during the Indian Wars.

Warren Waterhouse, of Monmouth, Oregon, was a cherry grower. The collection (1896) consists of a certificate of inspection of nursery stock, a letter regarding Waterhouse's cherries, and a poem written by Waterhouse regarding temperance.

Willamette University is private university located in Salem, Oregon and was founded in 1842. Collection consists of a single, 1 page certificate that promises Calvin S. Knipley a five hundred dollar tuition scholarship signed by the president of the university, David Leslie.
