E. C. M. Rand was commissioned in 1893 to investigate and report of the affairs of the Willamette Valley and Coast railroad and the Oregon Pacific railroad.
Ernest LaMarr King (1875-1954) was a superintendent for the Southern Pacific Railroad who also wrote articles and stories about the railroad. The collection consists of typed and hand written manuscripts of some of King's stories and articles.
The collection contains a petition dated August 31, 1881, addressed to the Board of Equalization for Washington County, Oregon, from the Oregon and California Railroad company. The petition requests the Board review the tax assessment by Washington county on the portion of tracks lying inside county lines.
