Astoria (Or.) -- History -- 19th century

Collection comprises photocopied typescripts of reminiscences by and about Mary Ann Dickinson Adair and John Adair. John Adair and his family traveled to Oregon via Panama and California after President Polk appointed him Collector of Customs in Astoria. The texts concern life in Kentucky and Oregon and include family information and transcriptions of archival records. Texts of letters written by Mrs. Adair during the journey are also included.

David Ingalls was an early resident of Astoria, Oregon Territory. The collection consists of a deed ceding Ingalls claim to his Astoria property to F. A. Smith.

John McClure was an Oregon pioneer and holder of a land claim that became Astoria, Oregon. The collection consists of a land sale agreement between McClure and business partners Herman C. Leonard and John Green.

The collection contains a legal document, dated July 20, 1868, signed by A. J. Megler and Joseph G. Megler, regarding a hotel Astoria, Oregon.

John W. Welch and Sarah Welch Wood were members of the pioneer Welch family that settled in Astoria, Oregon, beginning in 1844. The collection contains a letter dated February 24, 1917, in which John Welch reminisces about the founding of Lewiston, Idaho, and his early days in Astoria, Oregon.
