Jessie Applegate was an Oregon pioneer, legislator, and writer who helped established the Applegate Trail. This collection contains a brief overview of Jesse Applegate's life, and a brief narrative of early Oregon events. Includes commentary on River of the West, a book on early Oregon history written by Mrs. Frances Fuller Victor, and corrections to some of her statements.

Joseph Henry Brown (1867-1898) was an Oregon pioneer, newspaper printer and correspondent, a Veteran, and a historian who wrote about politics, and especially Native American culture and conflicts in Oregon. The collection contains a letter dated April 27, 1895 from Brown to Nettie Spencer regarding his and other's writings on the history of provisional government in Oregon.

Asahel Bush (1824-1913) was a prominent early Oregon citizen who worked as a printer, was the founder and editor of the Oregon Statesman newspaper, and was a banker. The collection (1850-1914) contains photostat copies of correspondence.

Originally from Maine, A. P. Dennison (1824-1896) held numerous minor political offices in the Oregon Territory, including Adjutant General. The papers consist of receipts, letters of appointment, reports, and a bound scrapbook.

John Smith Griffin (1807–1899) was an Oregon pioneer and missionary. The collection consists of Griffin's record of an interview with fellow missionaries.

Lafayette Grover served as Governor of Oregon from 1870-1877 and then resigned to become a United States Senator. His diary includes entries on his travels from Philadelphia to Portland and on his relations with figures such as Chief Justice Nelson along with his view on legislature.

Charles Jared Ingersoll was a Democratic senator and expansionist who wrote on the Oregon question. The collection consists of a letter on Oregon written to an unnamed correspondent on the importance of Oregon expansion, as well as an introduction to the letter by Glenn Mason.

James Blakely was a member of the Oregon Mounted Volunteers. This collection contains the appointment of James Blakely to Captain on April 20, 1856 by the governor of the Oregon Territory, George Law Curry.

The office of Oregon State Treasurer was officially established when Oregon was recognized as a state in February of 1859. The collection consists of a single promissory note issued in April of 1848.

Delazon Smith settled in Linn County in 1852 and was one of the first United States Senators from Oregon, elected in 1858. The contents of this collection is one outgoing handwritten letter.

Jacob Vanderpool was an African American owner of a saloon, restaurant, and boarding house living in Oregon City, Clackamas County, Oregon at a time when the Oregon Territory government enforced an exclusion law it had passed in 1844 that prevented blacks from living in the territory. In 1851, Vanderpool's neighbor brought suit against him, and Judge Thomas Nelson expelled him from the territory. This small collection consists of photostat copies of case documents.

Robert Thompson (1812-1860) was a businessman and politician. The collection consists of a single letter from Thompson to his friend and business partner William Stephens.

J. Q. Thornton (1810-1888) was a lawyer, Oregon pioneer, judge and lobbyist. Collection includes one, fifteen paged copy of "Oregon History" written by Thornton; one, eleven paged letter to Thornton concerning the Indian Delegation that went to St. Louis to inquire about the Bible; and one, six paged autobiography of Thornton.

George Stanley Turnbull (1882 - ?) researched the history of Oregon newspapers, journalism, and governors, and published at least four books on those subjects. The collection (1939) contains a three volume manuscript of the work, "History of Oregon Newspapers," that includes corrections, and printer's edits.
