Hal Evarts, Jr. was a writer of Western and mystery fiction. The collection comprises personal and professional correspondence, literary manuscripts, personal journals, and printed materials of author Hal George Evarts, Jr. The manuscripts are of Evarts' novels and short stories in the western and detective/mystery styles.

Abbie Ella Stoughton (later Stearns) was the daughter of Joseph Hibbard Stoughton, a Washington pioneer from New England. Her diary documents her travels from England to Asia and New York as well as travels in the Pacific Northwest and her appointment as enrolling clerk of the House, Washington Territorial Legislature.

Frederick W. Wichman served as a seaman, and in the infantry in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War and Philippine-American War, 1898-1901. The collection contains diaries and letters Wichman kept during his military service, and during a voyage around the world in 1901.
