Scope and Contents
The collection contains a diary that consists of seven volumes, and is mostly an accounting of farm work near Crow, Oregon.
Diary 1: January 1, 1866- December 31, 1866;
Diary 2: February 18, 1868- July 31, 1871 (includes "memoranda" at back of book);
Diary 3: May 24, 1876 to approximately May 16, 1878 (mostly short lists of work, purchases);
Diary 4: November 23, 1880- March 25, 1882 (mostly lists of work, purchases, interspersed with some longer and more detailed entries);
Diary 5: approximately July 29, 1882 - approximately November 24, 1885 (mostly lists of work, purchases with some more detailed entries)
Diary 6: November 11, 1885- April 25, 1887 (note overlap from previous diary; mostly lists of work and purchases)
Diary 7: February 16, 1888- July 17, 1889 (mostly lists of work and purchases; includes a few pages from a different book (undated) with sayings such as "Conversation is a means of intellectual improvement").
