Scope and Contents note

The papers include correspondence, publications of the Oregon Commonwealth Federation (1937-1938), records and minutes of Oregon Farmers Union Cooperative Association (1935-1954), Oregon State Farmers Union annual meeting minutes (1948-1956), minutes and correspondence of Oregon State Farmers Union, and Farmer-Labor Relations Committee (Marion County) from 1938. There are various publications of, and correspondence with, the national and state Socialist Party, and a scattered file of the Oregon Socialist Searchlight (Salem, Oregon), 1950-1951.

Biographical/Historical note

Wendell Barnett was born in Oregon City, Oregon, attended grade school, worked as a farmer, construction jobs, in a paper mill and pursued public office. In 1926 he was a farmer in Marion County, Oregon and was active in the Farmers Union and was one of the founders of the Oregon Commonwealth Federation, and aspired to political office as a Socialist, Democrat, and Independent.
