Biographical / Historical

Justin Chenoweth (1825-1898) was born in Clark County, Illinois, and came to California via Panama in 1849. He left California after a very short time, and came to Oregon, arriving with the U. S. Mounted Rifles in 1849. Over his life, he worked as a surveyor, mail carrier, and justice of the peace and settled on a claim west of The Dalles.
