Scope and Contents
The collection contains correspondence, commercial broadsides and catalogues, legal documents, account books, and photographs, 1877-1928.
The correspondence (over 1,000 letters) reflects Rostel's range of activities and interests. There are also a good many jobbers' and manufacturers' catalogues, often accompanied by correspondence.

Collection is open to the public. Collection must be used in Special Collections and University Archives Reading Room. Collection or parts of collection may be stored offsite. Please contact Special Collections and University Archives in advance of your visit to allow for transportation time.

Carl Rostel (1850-1928), a German immigrant, worked variously as a barber, saloonkeeper, and land speculator in Central Point, Oregon. He represented many firms anxious to sell notions through an agent and was an eager seller and consumer of patent medicines.
