Biographical/Historical note

"Capt. A.J. Balliet, at one time Yale's greatest oarsman and football player, leaves a handsome law practice to seek gold on the Yukon" as a passenger on the "Portland" from Seattle, New York Times, July 23, 1897. An Andrew J. Balliet was listed as a member of the Seattle Bar in 1919.
