Biographical / Historical

Lee Ettelson was born in Chicago and educated at the University of Chicago. He became a newspaper editor.

He was managing editor of the New York American (1926-1928); was assistant managing editor of the San Francisco Examiner (1929-1935; was managing editor of the Chicago Herald and Examiner (1935-1936), and was editor of the San Francisco Call Bulletin (1937-1946).

William Randolph Hearst (1863-1951) was an influential newspaper publisher, and was the owner of the San Francisco Examiner, and the Chicago Herald and Examiner, among many other newspapers.
