Scope and Contents

The Frank Fuller papers contain letters written to Fuller’s wife, Doris Dean Fuller, between 1938-1945. While some of the letters contain information about Fuller's life and travels prior to World War II, the majority of the material pertains to Fuller's service, from basic training at Camp Bowie in Brentwood, Texas to several Alaskan islands.

Biographical / Historical

Frank L. Fuller was a member of the of 11th Weather Squadron stationed in the Aleutian Islands during the Second World War. Originally from California, Fuller attended Sacramento Junior College before entering the University of California in 1940. Leaving the university that same year, Fuller traveled to Texas and then New York where he worked sporadically for a company that broke down Lockheed Hudson bombers and sent them to the European front. He was drafted into the infantry in November of 1940. He was transferred to the Army Air Corps in May 1941. He attended the Air Corps Technical School at Chanute Field, Illinois for meteorology training. He was promoted to sergeant in 1942 and sent to Alaska and the Aleutians where he remained until the end of the war. Sometime after his service, he and his wife moved to Gibsons, British Columbia, Canada where he was the director of adult education for local public schools.
