Biographical / Historical

The Willamette Greenway Advisory Committee (WGAC) is a group of professionals, each with specialties in different fields, who together make up recommendations and give advice to the Lane County Board of Commissioners.

The Greenway Plan divided the Willamette Valley into four units; the Lane County Group was section four, and it did not investigate matters outside of this section. Matters dealt with included the impact of dredging, construction of residential areas, the presence of mobile home parks, and recreational activities on the Willamette Greenway. Of special concern were the prospects of possible soil erosion, flooding, mining of mineral deposits, etc.

The committee published reports as well as additional educational materials, for the the public. Publishing of educational materials was also organized by a subcommittee called the Citizens Involvement Program Committee (CIP), which was made up of representatives of several local committees such as the WGAC, Lane County Planning Commission, Parks and Open Space Commission, and the Environmental Sanitation Commission.
