Scope and Contents
The collection consists of research correspondence, manuscripts, research materials, published articles and photographs. Subjects include Pacific trade, Oregon’s natural resources and sheep husbandry. Research materials relate primarily to woolen mills and damaged ships. The photographs are arranged by subject into folders. Subjects include shipping and ship construction, woolen mills (including the Thomas Kay Woolen Mills in Salem, Oregon), lumber companies, and University of Oregon shipping students.

Biographical / Historical
Alfred L. Lomax (1892- 1982) was a Professor of Business Administration (Pacific Northwest industrial history) at the University of Oregon, where he taught for over fifty years. He is the author of two books on woolen mills in Oregon and a history of sheep husbandry in Oregon.
