Scope and Contents
The collection consists of Robert Moore's promissory note to the United States Government in the amount of one thousand dollars for the right to the land that would become Linn City, Oregon. The document details Moore's obligations to establish schools and improve the land within "twelve months form the date hereof". The note also includes two conveyances of the property, attached to the end of the document.

Biographical / Historical
Robert Moore (1781-1857) was a politician and pioneer in the Oregon Territory. He participated in early movements to form a government in the Oregon Territory and founded Linn City, Oregon. Before traveling to Oregon in 1840 he had served in the Missouri General Assembly.
