Scope and Contents
The collection includes Townsend newsletters and convention materials, Townsend Plan constitution and bylaws, dissolution information, and testimony to the Ways and Means committee, International Members Council interviews, correspondence, financial records, reel-to-reel audio, memorabilia, photographs, broadsides, and material from the Le Habre Townsend Club, the Pasedena Townsend Club, the Townsend Clubs of Southern California, and the Greater L.A. Advisory Council.
The collection includes correspondence with attorneys from the Secretary, Edna McFarland, the State Director (Tifft), 1957-1969, and by the National Headquarter's manager, John Doyle Elliot.
The Pasadena Townsend Club records include a minute record book, 1939-1942, and other materials.
The Le Habre Townsend Club records include correspondence and other materials.
The Greater L.A. Advisory Council material includes minutes.
Reel-to-reel audio includes interviews with Dr. Francis E. Townsend and the International Members Council.
Memorabilia includes badges, posters, pamphlets, guest book, news clippings, pins, and a commemorative saucer. Also included here are Townsend Plan constitution and bylaws, dissolution information, and testimony to the Ways and Means committee.
There is a photograph of the first Townsend National Convention and the collection includes other convention materials. Other photographs include prints of the Tifft family and Dr. Francis E. Townsend.

Conditions Governing Access
Collection is open to the public. Collection must be used in Special Collections and University Archives Reading Room. Collection or parts of collection may be stored offsite. Please contact Special Collections and University Archives in advance of your visit to allow for transportation time. Collection includes sound recordings, moving images, and digital files to which access is restricted. Access to these materials is governed by repository policy and may require the production of listening or viewing copies. Researchers requiring access must notify Special Collections and University Archives in advance and pay fees for reproduction services as necessary.
Conditions Governing Use
Property rights reside with Special Collections and University Archives, University of Oregon Libraries. Copyright resides with the creators of the documents or their heirs. All requests for permission to publish collection materials must be submitted to Special Collections and University Archives. The reader must also obtain permission of the copyright holder.
Biographical / Historical
State chapters of the National Townsend plan were often referred to as clubs. Earl Tifft was the state director of the California chapter of the Townsend Plan.
