Abstract
Lake Bechtell (1886 -1977) was a lawyer who became City Attorney of Prineville, then was elected to the City Council in 1921, to the office of Mayor in 1925, and served as District Attorney for Crook County, 1928 to 1953. The collection contains legal files regarding livestock companies, grazing and irrigation districts, mining claims, and railroads, 1918-1963.

Biographical / Historical
Lake Bechtell (1886-1977) was born in Rock Rapids, Iowa, and received his law degree from the University of Iowa in 1909. He moved to Oregon in 1910, after practicing law for one year in Iowa, and was appointed Deputy Clerk of Crook County.
Six years later he became City Attorney of Prineville, serving during the construction of the Prineville Railway. He was elected to the City Council in 1921 and to the office of Mayor in 1925. From 1928 to 1953 he served as District Attorney for Crook County.
