Scope and Contents

The collection contains deeds and legal papers, account books, a map, and correspondence.

Correspondence is arranged by date first, and then alphabetically within a date range. Date ranges include 1862-1886; 1887-1891; and 1891. Includes correspondence with Benjamin Dowell.

Deeds and legal papers (1855-1912) include land deeds, wills, and an "account of goods burnt and destroyed by Indians."

There are three account books.

The collection also contains a hand drawn map of Oakland, Oregon, showing the intersections of Front and 3rd streets, and Ash and Walnut Streets.

Stearns and Chenoweth was a hardware store located in Oakland, Oregon, that dealt in hardware, stoves, tinware, guns, pistols and sewing machines. The collection (1855-1912) contains deeds and legal papers, account books, a map, and correspondence.
