Gladys Lucy Adshead (1896-1985) was a noted educator, school administrator, and the author of many children's books. The collection consists of correspondence related to production and publishing of her books, and manuscripts.

Bryton Barron (1898- ) was a teacher, a writer, a civil servant, a publisher and, most notably, a political conservative who wrote critically of the U.S. State Department and U.S. Foreign policy. The collection includes correspondence, writings, reports and newspaper clippings.

Doris Gates (1901-1987), renowned author and editor of literary works for children, was born in Mountain View, California. Gates' deep interests in storytelling and mythology are evident in both her oral and written narratives. This collection includes correspondence, manuscripts, and published materials. Also included are records relating to Ginn and Company, publisher of textbooks.

Dr. Sally Miller Gearhart was a scholar, educator, science-fiction writer, feminist, and lesbian activist. The papers include correspondence, literary works, academic work, public appearances and publicity materials, photographs, journals and artwork, personal papers, and writings of others.

Sheba Hargreaves (1882-1960) was an elementary teacher and author. The collection consists of manuscripts of books and feature articles, correspondence, and pamphlets.

Dwight E. Mitchell (1898-1988) was a teacher, journalist, and writer who investigated and wrote about education and teaching. The collection contains correspondence, manuscripts, notebooks and diaries, college and university teaching materials, tearsheets, interviews and biographical files, and books.

Author Janet Marshall Stevenson (1913- ) has made contributions as a writer of civil rights, the women's movement and the arts. This collection contains manuscripts, holographs and photographs of her many short stories, articles and books; within this collection are research items and family papers associated with her biography of Robert W. Kenny, an influential liberal that championed the rights of several of the "Hollywood 10" before the House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC).

Herbert Spencer Zim (1909-1994) was a teacher and author in the field of science. His works in this collection reflect his work in the science field. Sonia Bleeker Zim was an editor for a publishing house and a writer of youth books. Her work in this collection represents her career as a youth author.
