Abstract

Joseph Gardner Wilson, of The Dalles, Oregon, wrote a letter dated February 26, 1870, addressed to "Dear Sir." The collection contains the letter which refers to disposition of scrip from James W. Nesmith to E. M. Barnum, and Wilson writes that he thinks Barnum dishonest.

William H. Willson (1805-1856) was a doctor and preacher in the Oregon Territory and is remembered as the "founder of Salem." The collection consists of a single, 1 paged warranty deed of various pieces of land in the Oregon Territory written by William H. Willson to A. Kitelinger in the presence of H. Holden and C. N. Terry.

Benjamin Young was a salmon canner, banker, real estate promoter of Astoria, Oregon and worked for the British America Packing Company. The collection contains letterpress copy books that include personal and business correspondence, a record book of the Ben Young Land Company, a scrapbook, and twenty-one volumes of British America Packing Company journals, cash books, letterpress copy books, ledgers, and invoice books, 1882-1906.

C.C. Jantzen and J. A. Zehntbauer purchased the manufacturing department of the Portland (Oregon) Knitting Company in 1909; this company was the manufacturer of the Jantzen clothing line. The collection contains a letter dated November 18, 1917, from Zehntbauer to J. L. Krantz, regarding the early history of the company, and problems that arose without access to a worsted (wool) spinning mill in the West.
