Abstract

Elijah Lafayette Bristow (1832-1887) is the son of Elijah Bristow (1788-1872), the first white settler within the present day boundary lines of Lane county. Collection contains 1 copy of Bristow's manuscript of " Rencounters with Indians, Highwaymen and Outlaws." He comments on his father's experiences in the upper Willamette Valley; Indian tribes; impact of the California gold discovery; and his own experiences in the mines in northern California in 1853.

Robert Louis Buell (1898-1966) served in WWI and WWII, and also served as a foreign service officer from 1925 to 1952, and was often posted in the Far East. The collection (1917-1958) contains records and correspondence from Buell's service in WWI, correspondence and memoranda regarding world events and Buell's service in WWII, speeches, recollections, manuscripts, and photographs.

Abstract

Orval Etter is a former professor at the University of Oregon who founded the Pacifica Forum in 1994. He was a professor of planning, public policy and management. He was also a pacifist and a conscientious objector during World War II. The collection includes information on the Pacifica Forum and the Emerald Chamber Players including articles, newsletters, writings by Etter, material on the Fellowship of Reconciliation, and subject files.

Abstract

Henry Gilsheuser served in U.S. Army in the Philippines, rose to the grade of Lieutenant Colonel in the Philippine Constabulary, and was appointed Provincial Governor of Lanao in 1910 and served until 1912, and again from 1915 to 1917. The collection (1907-1916) contains official and semi-official correspondence, Constabulary circulars (newsletters), general orders, and rosters, and also a manuscript regarding the Province of Lanao.
