Albert Applegate (1843-1888) was a farmer and served in the 1st Oregon Volunteer Infantry Regiment. He was the son of Jesse Applegate who helped establish the Applegate Trail. Collection contains nine photostats of letters written by Albert Applegate during his military career.

Moray Lindsay Applegate (1876-1956) is a descendant of the Applegate family who were early pioneers to Oregon and established the Applegate Trail. Herbert Cooper Thompson, journalist and writer, was born in Eugene, Oregon in 1875 and died in October of 1960. Collection contains letters written to Herbert Thompson (Tommy) from Moray Applegate (living in Mexico at the time) discussing the Applegate family, correspondence to Moray's sister Alice Applegate Piel.

The Baker family, consisting of Walter H. Baker, his wife Ida S. Baker (nee Rawalt) and their three sons, William A., Walter R., and Paul, as well as Ida Baker's sister, Mary Hoffman (nee Rawalt), her husband William and their son Harlan, all moved to the Salem, Oregon area in the 1890s. The collection contains records of the Baker, Rawalt, and Hoffman family that include diaries, correspondence, photographs, negatives, and business records of Walter Baker.

The collection contains a letter dated February 24, 1884, from H. L. Barret, of Birch Creek, Oregon to Thomas R. Cornelius. In the letter, Barret reports on snow and wagon travel in the mountains, his oxen, and the the trials of travel.

In 1870, Rollin Simeon Belknap claimed a hot springs site located in Oregon, in the western foothills of the Cascade Mountains, that is now known as Belknap Hot Springs. The collection contains a letter of June 5, 1872, from Belknap to A. Gibbs, asking Gibbs to pass on a bottle of water (that was sent with the letter) to a chemist for tests, as the springs he found were said to be good for healing. (The bottle is not included in the collection).

Lillian Caldwell Blackwood was an Oregon pioneer who lived in Jacksonville, Oregon. The collection (1877-1928) contains correspondence regarding family and Oregon society and family photographs.

Thomas R. Cornelius (1827-1899) was a pioneer and member of the Oregon Mounted Volunteers during the Cayuse and Yakima Indian Wars. The collection consists of a single letter to his wife written during his military service.

Daniel Craft (ca. 1815-1908) immigrated to Oregon in 1847. The collection consists of an order of payment from Craft to John S. Hurt of Marion County, Oregon Territory.

The collection contains a typed copy of a letter dated October 20, 1889, from C. S. Culver of Mantorville, Minnesota, to his brother and sister Lucius and Amanda Culver. The letter is a description of transportation facilities and natural resources of Oregon during 1889.

Henry Cummins (1840-1901) was a well-read and enthusiastic student of topics various and sundry with a partiality for pseudo-science. The collection (1858-1863) consists of Cummins' personal correspondence as well as a memory book and miscellaneous papers.

Elwood Evans (1828-1898) was a lawyer, politician, and historian of the Pacific Northwest. The collection consists of a single notebook intended primarily as source notes for Evans' historical work.

Ira Gardner was a woodworker, who wrote letters from Oregon to his family in Iowa, during the mid 1800s. The collection (1865) contains three pieces of Gardner's correspondence, in which he praises Oregon's "froots" and "psalmon," but damns the weather.

Edward R. Geary (1811-1886) was a pioneer, missionary and educator. The collection consists of a typed transcription of a letter to John McLellan in which Geary describes his "travel's history" in Latin America and Oregon.

A. J. Grover wrote a letter dated April 18, 1863, to Edwin Beebe, of Placerville, Idaho to say that he had been delayed by Indians and it was too late for best market in Placerville; he also quotes prices in mining towns.

The collection contains one letter dated January 5, 1863, from A. J. Grover to Edwin Beebe, of Portland, Oregon, giving a good report of Boise mines.

Joseph Hedges (1827-1895) was a carpenter and pioneer who travelled from Ohio to Oregon in 1852. The collection consists of a single, one paragraph letter from Hedge to Fouts.

John Webster Perit Huntington (1831-1869), publisher, lawyer, teacher, farmer and Superintendent of Indian Affairs in Oregon. In 1857 Huntington met and married Mary Applegate (1834-1878), daughter of Charles Applegate. Collections include copies of 9 letters addressed to "Ma" and "Pa." These letters are both written by John and his wife Mary to their parents between 1855 and 1860.

Melchi Johnson, of Bethel, Polk County, Oregon, wrote a letter dated August 30, 1869, to his daughter. The collection contains the letter in which Johnson reminds his daughter that she has not been forgotten by her family.

Jesse Looney (1800-1869) was a pioneer farmer and early Oregon legislator. The collection consists of a typed transcript of a letter from Looney to his brother-in-law, John C. Bond.

Charles Hiram Mattoon and Reuben C. Hill were both early ministers of Oregon, and Hill also served in the Oregon territory government, in 1857. The collection contains a letter of January 18, 1862 from Mattoon to Hill, warning Hill about rumours that he favored slavery.

The collection contains a letter from John Minto to William P. Lord, of Salem, Oregon, dated January 15, 1892. In the letter, Minto describes his experiences as an escort for Jesse Applegate, from 1847 to 1848, including travel through the Siskiyou mountains.

Bethenia Owens-Adair was an American social reformer and one of the first female physicians in Oregon. This collection contains one letter written by Owens-Adair on December 29th 1924.

Prichard left Polk County, Iowa in 1852; was in Marysville, Calif., in 1861; Union, Oregon, 1865-1867; and Rye Valley, Oregon, 1868-1869. In 1865, he built a toll road from Union to Express Ranch, Oregon, an investment that failed. His very occasional letters to a brother, Amos, and to other relatives in Iowa give a bare account of his experiences.

Almira Raymond, wife of mission farmer William W. Raymond, arrived in Oregon in 1849 as part of the mission "reinforcement" aboard the Lausanne. Her letters reflect the hardships of mission life and the ambiguous attitude of the missionaries toward the Indians.

Kate Robbins, nee Pratt, was born in Cohasset, Massachusetts, and moved with her husband Abner to Ochoco, Oregon in 1868. The family was among the first settlers in the Ochoco area. The collection is composed of correspondence that describes living conditions in and near Ochoco and Prineville, with references to Indian uprisings, feuds between cattle and sheep ranchers, politics, and social life.

The collection (1869-1878) contains handwritten personal correspondence between members of the Savage family that lived in Maine and Oregon.
